O munic\u00edpio de Aguiar, no sert\u00e3o da Para\u00edba, est\u00e1 se preparando para entrar em conex\u00e3o com o universo. A cidade de pouco mais de 5 mil habitantes, segundo os n\u00fameros do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estat\u00edstica (IBGE), foi escolhida para receber o radiotelesc\u00f3pio Bingo (Baryon Acoustic Oscillations from Integrated Neutral Gas Observations<\/em>, em ingl\u00eas), projeto internacional liderado pelo Brasil, em parceria com outros oito pa\u00edses: China, Coreia do Sul, Reino Unido, Fran\u00e7a, Espanha, Alemanha, \u00c1frica do Sul e Su\u00ed\u00e7a.<\/p>\n

A inten\u00e7\u00e3o do telesc\u00f3pio \u00e9 ajudar a esclarecer dois fen\u00f4menos ainda misteriosos da cosmologia e da astrof\u00edsica: a energia escura e as rajadas r\u00e1pidas de r\u00e1dio (em ingl\u00eas,\u00a0fast radio bursts<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 FRBs).<\/p>\n

O coordenador-geral do Bingo, \u00c9lcio Abdalla, do Instituto de F\u00edsica da Universidade de S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), conta que o projeto est\u00e1 alinhado a uma ci\u00eancia de vanguarda. \u201cA pesquisa sobre cosmologia hoje \u00e9 muito concentrada no setor escuro do universo – que \u00e9 a pergunta, talvez, mais relevante da f\u00edsica. O universo tem 95% de parte escura que n\u00e3o consegue ser explicada e o Bingo, atrav\u00e9s da observa\u00e7\u00e3o, pode dar v\u00ednculos muito relevantes para esta quest\u00e3o\u201d, explica. \u201cEle pode indicar se h\u00e1 ou n\u00e3o uma estrutura complexa desta parte escura. Pode ser algo muito simples, como fluidos distribu\u00eddos no universo, como pode ter uma intera\u00e7\u00e3o – o que implicaria em uma verdadeira revolu\u00e7\u00e3o, em termos de conhecimentos f\u00edsicos\u201d, diz.<\/p>\n

Sobre as rajadas r\u00e1pidas de r\u00e1dio, que tamb\u00e9m foram descobertas nos \u00faltimos 20 anos, Abdalla diz que o Bingo ser\u00e1 capaz de propor sugest\u00f5es sobre o que seriam estas fontes t\u00e3o intensas e misteriosas de energia no Universo. \u201cSer\u00e1 um segundo problema de enorme interesse no caso da astrof\u00edsica\u201d.<\/p>\n

Para uma miss\u00e3o desta grandeza, \u00e9 preciso ter um c\u00e9u limpo e sem tantas interfer\u00eancias eletromagn\u00e9ticas. \u00c9 a\u00ed que entra Aguiar, localizada no Vale do Pianc\u00f3 e distante cerca de 400 quil\u00f4metros da capital, Jo\u00e3o Pessoa. A cidade foi selecionada ap\u00f3s buscas por locais que atendiam esses requisitos, tanto no Brasil quanto no Uruguai.<\/p>\n

\u201cTem que ser um local com uma enorme pureza de observa\u00e7\u00e3o, porque \u00e9 uma observa\u00e7\u00e3o dific\u00edlima. O que vamos observar s\u00e3o de 30 a 40 ordens de grandeza menor do que tudo que n\u00f3s vemos. Por isso n\u00e3o pode ter nenhum ru\u00eddo eletromagn\u00e9tico. No sert\u00e3o da Para\u00edba, \u00e9 excelente fazer isso, al\u00e9m de termos no estado uma intera\u00e7\u00e3o muito boa com a Universidade Federal de Campina Grande (UFCG), com equipes excelentes na \u00e1rea\u201d, justifica Abdalla.<\/p>\n

Al\u00e9m da participa\u00e7\u00e3o da UFCG, o projeto conta tamb\u00e9m com pesquisadores da Universidade de S\u00e3o Paulo (USP) e do Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (Inpe).<\/p>\n

O Bingo, que ter\u00e1 apoio de outro radiotelesc\u00f3pio (batizado de Uirapuru), deve entrar em testes ainda este ano e em opera\u00e7\u00e3o at\u00e9 o final de 2022.
